Polish Easter

What is traditional Polish Easter food?

Polish Easter tables are filled with a generous spread to celebrate the end of Lent and the arrival of spring. This festive feast combines centuries-old traditions for a memorable meal.

A sour soup called Żurek is typically served as an appetiser, alongside hard-boiled eggs that are prepared in advance and taken to church for a blessing by the priest. Painted eggs, traditionally coloured red, also make popular gifts during this time of year.

At the centre of the table is a special white sausage known as biała kiełbasa, as well as a glorious piece of ham, which can be either baked and glazed to perfection or served as a cold cut. This symbolises prosperity and health.

Dessert includes makowiec cakes, a classic roll-shaped pastry made with a rich filling of ground poppy seeds and sweet spices, as well as the beloved babka bread.
