Fruit Compote

What is fruit compote?

Fruit compote is a traditional preserve made from hand-harvested, locally grown fruit at its peak ripeness to maximise natural flavour. Using a classic recipe, the fruit pieces are gently simmered over low heat with minimal added sugar.

Made without additives or preservatives, fruit compote is an excellent alternative to canned or tinned options, evoking the authentic summer fragrance of fresh fruit.

How can I use it?

Fruit compote is a versatile pantry staple, perfect for both savoury and sweet dishes.

  • Quince compote makes a delicious side dish for roast beef, pork, or turkey, providing a sweet contrast to the rich flavours of the meat.
  • Peach compote can be a tasty topping for waffles, French toast, or ice cream, creating an indulgent treat. You can also cut it into cubes and sprinkle it over yoghurt, granola, or porridge for a quick and filling snack.
  • When pitted, cherries make an attractive topping for pancakes, desserts, and cheesecakes. They can also be used to make an indulgent black forest gateau.

How is it made?

Our fruit compote comes from Venyige Farm, a multi-generational family farm located in the heart of the Hungarian Great Plain since 1918. They prepare their compotes and preserves from hand-picked ingredients grown in their orchards or sourced directly from neighbouring farms. The fresh fruit is carefully processed to retain its natural goodness, bringing an authentic taste of the Hungarian countryside to your table.
