Organic Rice

What is organic rice?

Organic rice is cultivated without synthetic pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers, or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Instead, farmers rely on natural methods, including classic crop rotation, biological pest control, and sustainable water management.

To earn organic certification, rice must be grown in accordance with strict EU organic regulations, which prohibit the use of synthetic chemicals for at least 3 years prior to harvest.

Our certified organic rice is cultivated on the Hungarian Great Plain. This sunny, flat plain is ideal for growing premium-quality crops, while the swampy paddies are a haven for waterbirds and protected species.

Is organic rice really better?

Organic rice offers several advantages over conventionally grown varieties:

  • Organic rice contains no synthetic chemical residues that may accumulate in regular rice.
  • Organic cultivation promotes long-term sustainability by improving soil health through composting and crop selection, supporting the growth of beneficial insects and wildlife, enhancing biodiversity, and providing natural pest control.

Why choose European rice?

Since European organic standards are among the world's strictest, selecting European rice supports sustainable agriculture and ethical farming practices while ensuring guaranteed provenance and traceability from farm to fork.

At the same time, you're supporting local agricultural communities and reducing the carbon footprint associated with long-distance food transport from suppliers based farther afield.
