Tokaji Édes Szamorodni is a complex yet easy-drinking sweet wine. This affordable luxury offers the ideal introduction to the best Hungarian dessert wines.
It boasts a deep golden colour, accompanied by an intensely floral aroma and rich flavours of honey, orange peel, mango, and winter spices, with a hint of botrytis. Its silky smooth texture is complemented by the vibrant acidity of the Furmint grape, which perfectly balances the wine's natural sweetness. This makes it an approachable drink and a versatile choice for food pairing.
What is Tokaji Szamorodni?
Tokaji Sweet Szamorodni is one of Hungary's most popular and cherished dessert wines, originating from the historic Tokaj wine region.
The name "Szamorodni" derives from Polish, meaning "as it grows." Unlike Tokaji Aszú, which is made with selected grapes, Szamorodni is crafted using whole clusters, beautifully blending both botrytised and healthy grapes. This results in a wine with great depth and complexity delivered in a refreshing sip.
This traditional late-harvest wine captures the distinctive character of the unique volcanic Tokaj terroir, making it an excellent choice for those trying Hungarian sweet wines for the first time or as a unique gift for wine enthusiasts.
Food Pairing
For a gourmet experience, pair this sweet wine with a luxurious goose liver or a creamy blue cheese for a delightful contrast. For an indulgent sweet treat, try it with chocolate cakes or your Christmas pudding. While if you are feeling more adventurous, consider serving it with spicy Asian dishes for an exciting fusion of flavours.
