Organic Rice Flour

Discover our organic rice flour from Hungary: two stone-ground, naturally gluten-free flours with superfine textures for everyday baking and cooking.

Organic Rice Flour for Gluten-Free Cooking and Baking

Our organic rice flour range brings together two distinct, single-ingredient flours: Organic White Rice Flour and Organic Brown Rice Flour. Both are made from certified organic rice grown on the Hungarian Great Plain by specialist producer Valoryz, then stone-ground for a light, superfine texture.

Rice flour is a useful, naturally gluten-free pantry staple for cakes, biscuits, pancakes, sauces, crisp coatings and homemade doughs. These are regular, non-glutinous rice flours, suitable where a recipe calls for white or brown rice flour; they are not a substitute for glutinous rice flour, sweet rice flour or mochi flour.

Choose the Right Organic Rice Flour

Organic White Rice Flour

Organic White Rice Flour is the lighter, milder choice. Made from organic white rice, it has a gently sweet flavour and a light colour, making it ideal for delicate cakes, biscuits, pancakes, sauces, and crisp coatings.

Its superfine texture also makes it a versatile component in gluten-free flour blends. For bread, pizza dough and flexible pastry, combine it with other gluten-free flours and a suitable binder such as psyllium husk or xanthan gum.

Organic Brown Rice Flour

Organic Brown Rice Flour is made from wholegrain brown rice, including the natural bran layer. It has a warmer colour, more pronounced nutty flavour and a satisfyingly substantial character, with 10.5g of fibre and 8.5g of protein per 100g.

It is especially good in cookies, muffins, pancakes, savoury bakes, sauces and crisp coatings. Because the bran absorbs more moisture, batters and doughs may benefit from a little extra liquid and a 10–15 minute rest before cooking or baking.

Stone-Ground in Hungary

Valoryz grows the rice for this range on the Hungarian Great Plain, using intermittent irrigation, also known as Alternate Wetting and Drying, rather than continuous flooding. This approach is associated with lower arsenic uptake than permanently flooded rice paddies.

The rice is stone-ground and packed in Hungary in a dedicated facility that does not process gluten-containing grains. This gives the range clear provenance and traceability from farm to finished pack. For whole grains from the same specialist producer, explore our organic rice collection.

Monika Gyenes selected the range for its clean flavour, dependable cooking performance and transparent European supply chain. Each 1kg bag is made from recyclable paper, offering a practical plastic-free way to keep gluten-free flour close at hand.

Independently Tested White Rice Flour

The organic white rice used for our White Rice Flour has been independently tested by ISO/IEC 17025-accredited GALAB Laboratories in Germany. The tested sample recorded 0.078mg/kg inorganic arsenic; cadmium and lead were below the laboratory’s reporting limits, and no pesticides were detected in the sample.

This inorganic-arsenic result is below the 0.10mg/kg maximum level for rice intended for the production of baby foods for infants and young children. View the independent Certificate of Analysis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is rice flour naturally gluten-free?

Yes. Both flours are made from 100% organic rice and contain no gluten-containing ingredients. They are stone-ground in a dedicated facility that does not process gluten-containing grains.

Can I use rice flour instead of wheat flour?

Rice flour works well where a recipe specifically calls for rice flour or a gluten-free flour. For yeast breads and recipes that depend on gluten for elasticity and structure, use it as part of a gluten-free blend with a suitable binder rather than as a straight one-to-one replacement for wheat flour.

What is the difference between white and brown rice flour?

White rice flour is lighter in colour and flavour, with a more neutral result in delicate bakes and sauces. Brown rice flour retains the bran layer, giving it a nuttier wholegrain character, more fibre and greater moisture absorption.
