Ischler cookies are sandwich biscuits made by dipping two shortbread pastries into indulgent dark chocolate, with fruity apricot jam layered in between.
Named after Bad Ischl, the Austrian city that served as the summer residence of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth, these cookies are a delightful combination of Linzer cookies and Sachertorte. The Linzer cookies are enrobed in high-quality dark chocolate, making them an elegant treat that embodies the best of continental coffeehouse culture.
Each pack contains two Ischler cookies, making these classic European cakes perfect for parties and special occasions. They can also be enjoyed as part of a gourmet afternoon tea or as an indulgent snack, providing an authentic taste of the Golden Age.
How is it made?
Isler cookies begin with the preparation of a Linzer cookie. A shortbread-style dough is baked until golden and lightly crisp. Once cooled, fragrant apricot jam is spread on one cookie, and another cookie is placed on top, creating a delicious biscuit sandwich.
This is then covered in smooth dark chocolate and topped with coarsely chopped pistachios and decorated with dried rose petals for a stylish and crunchy finishing touch.
