Raw honeydew honey is a unique variety. This deep amber forest honey has a rich, malty character, gentle sweetness and an intense, earthy finish.
What Is Honeydew Honey?
Honeydew honey is different from blossom honey. Rather than gathering nectar from flowers, bees collect honeydew: a naturally sweet substance found on the leaves and bark of trees after sap-feeding insects have fed on the plant.
This creates a darker, more complex honey with a full-bodied aroma and a layered flavour that is less floral than traditional blossom honey. Its savoury, slightly woody character makes it particularly good with food as well as in drinks.
Our honeydew honey is harvested raw, coarsely filtered and unpasteurised, with nothing added or blended in.
How to Use Honeydew Honey
Its deep flavour and subtle sweetness make honeydew honey a lovely choice when you want something more distinctive than a light floral honey.
- Drizzle over Greek yoghurt, porridge, muesli, toast or warm crumpets for a richly flavoured breakfast.
- Serve with hard cheeses such as mature Cheddar, Parmesan or Pecorino, alongside walnuts, crackers and fresh pear.
- For a more grown-up finish, drizzle a little honeydew honey over our chilled floating island dessert; its deeper forest character gives the vanilla custard a delicious contrast.
- Spoon over vanilla ice cream, panna cotta or a simple cheesecake for an easy dessert with a deeper flavour.
- Use in glazes and marinades for roast pork, chicken, carrots or parsnips.
- Stir into coffee or a cup of tea when you want a delicious alternative to refined sugar.
Serving Tip
Honeydew honey is especially good at room temperature, when its aroma is most expressive. Try a small spoonful with a mature cheese or buttered toast to appreciate its rich forest character.
Where Does It Come From?
Our raw honeydew honey comes from Váraljai’s Honey Farm, a family-run apiary near Ásotthalom on the southern Great Hungarian Plain. Beekeeper László Váraljai works with his own hives, producing carefully harvested Hungarian honey with clear provenance from hive to jar.
Monika visits the farm annually and remains in regular contact with László. She selected his honey for the Monika’s Kitchen range for its pure flavour, traditional handling and dependable traceability.
