What Is Hawthorn Honey?

Hawthorn honey is made by bees gathering nectar predominantly from the delicate blossoms of flowering hawthorn bushes. This gives it a characterful flavour that is more aromatic and savoury-edged than many lighter floral honeys, while remaining pleasantly sweet and smooth.

It is harvested raw, coarsely filtered and unpasteurised, with nothing added or blended in. Its rich colour and gently nutty, herbal character make it a particularly good choice when you want honey to bring depth as well as sweetness.

How to Use Hawthorn Honey

Hawthorn honey is especially lovely with ingredients that complement its warm, rounded flavour.

• Serve with mature Cheddar, Parmesan or a firm goat’s cheese on a generous cheese board, with walnuts, pears or crisp apple.
• Drizzle over fruit salad, Greek yoghurt, porridge or muesli for a more distinctive breakfast.

Where Does It Come From?

Our raw hawthorn honey comes from Váraljai’s Honey Farm, a family-run apiary near Ásotthalom on the southern Great Hungarian Plain. Beekeeper László Váraljai keeps his own hives in this landscape of forests, meadows and open countryside.

Monika visits the farm annually and remains in regular contact with László. She selected his honey for the Monika’s Kitchen range for its clean flavour and clear traceability from hive to jar.
