Naturally caffeine-free Tartary buckwheat tea, roasted for a smooth, nutty flavour and a golden infusion to enjoy hot, iced, cold-brewed or with milk.
What Is Buckwheat Tea?
Buckwheat tea, also known as Soba tea or Soba cha, is made from roasted Tartary buckwheat seeds. It is a traditional drink in Japan and Korea, enjoyed both hot and cold.
Roasting gives the seeds their inviting toasted aroma and distinctive nutty flavour. When infused, they produce a clear golden cup with smooth, gently savoury notes and a clean finish.
Despite its name, buckwheat is not a wheat. This tea is naturally caffeine-free and gluten-free and makes a comforting alternative to black tea, green tea or coffee at any time of day.

How to Use Buckwheat Tea
Buckwheat tea is especially satisfying as a warming cup on a cool morning or a calm evening drink, when its rich roasted character can be enjoyed without caffeine. It is equally delicious chilled, where its clean, nutty flavour becomes a refreshing alternative to conventional iced tea.
Serve it simply, add a little plant milk for a mellow, creamy cup, or sweeten it gently with a spoonful of raw honey. The brewed kernels are also delicious to eat, adding a toasted crunch to yoghurt, porridge or salads.
How to Brew Buckwheat Tea
- Add one teaspoon of roasted buckwheat seeds to a cup.
- Pour over 150–200ml of boiling water.
- Leave to infuse for 3–5 minutes.
- Strain and serve.
The same seeds can be infused another 2–3 times, with each brew becoming a little lighter in flavour. One pack makes approximately 50–60 cups.
Serving Tip: For a refreshing iced Soba tea, brew as above, allow it to cool, then chill in the refrigerator. Serve over ice with a little lemon, or add plant milk for a smooth, lightly nutty iced drink.
