Grey Cattle beef salami is a rich, dry-aged smoked salami made with free-range beef and sweet paprika for a full-bodied, pork-free charcuterie experience.

What Is Beef Salami?

This artisan salami is made from Hungarian Grey Cattle beef, known in Hungary as Szürkemarha, an ancient native breed with a distinctive, deeply savoury flavour. Beef tallow gives the salami a supple texture and rounded richness, while sweet paprika, black pepper and caraway bring warmth and balance.

Made in small batches, then dry-aged and cold-smoked, it has a firm yet tender slice and a satisfying, naturally meaty finish. Ready to eat, it's filled into a pork-free casing and contains no pork meat or fat.

Made without added nitrates, nitrites, artificial additives or preservatives, it is part of our carefully selected range of nitrate-free and preservative-free charcuterie.

How to Use Beef Salami

Serve this full-flavoured salami at room temperature, allowing its beefy character and paprika-led seasoning to open up before eating.

  • Arrange thin slices on a charcuterie board with mature Cheddar, Parmesan, pickles, olives and crusty bread, alongside other heritage-breed charcuterie.
  • Add to sandwiches, toasties and wraps with pickles, roasted peppers or a sharp cheese.
  • Create an easy pizza-night board: arrange thin slices with flatbreads, mozzarella, tomato sauce and olives, then let everyone build their own toppings.
  • Dice into a pasta salad, stir through a tomato-based pasta sauce or use in our easy salami pasta recipe for a quick, satisfying supper.
  • Serve with mustard, cornichons and dark rye bread for a simple Central European-style aperitif or relaxed beer pairing.
  • Serve with fresh bread, sliced tomato and a fried egg for a generous weekend breakfast or filling brunch.

For portions, pairings and a simple way to build a balanced spread, see our Hungarian charcuterie board guide.

Serving Tip

Take the salami from the fridge 15–20 minutes before serving to let its natural fat soften slightly. Remove and discard the outer casing before slicing and serving.

Great Taste Award Winner

This Hungarian Grey Cattle beef salami won 1 Star at the 2025 Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food. View the official Great Taste Awards listing.

"This glossy salami cuts to reveal a bright, enticingly coloured and closely textured interior... We admired the clean, lingering aftertaste and the way they married in harmony to enhance rather than overwhelm the honest beefiness."

Where Does It Come From?

Our Hungarian Grey Cattle beef salami is made by Szomor Farm, a family-owned producer established in 1989 in Kiskunság National Park on the Hungarian Great Plain. The farm lies on the former Danube floodplain, within one of Hungary’s characteristic saline-steppe landscapes.

The Hungarian Grey Cattle roam freely outdoors and graze on the natural grassland. This unhurried, free-range approach, along with Szomor Farm’s traditional curing methods, creates a distinctive salami with genuine Hungarian provenance.
