Raw bee pollen is a naturally colourful collection of tiny wildflower-pollen granules with a mildly sweet, floral flavour and a pleasantly chewy texture.

What Is Bee Pollen?

As bees forage, pollen from wildflowers gathers on their legs. Back at the hive, they form it into the small, golden granules known as bee pollen.

Our beekeeper carefully collects only surplus pollen, ensuring enough remains for the colony. The result is a pure, single-ingredient bee product with natural variation in colour, size and flavour from one granule to the next.

This raw bee pollen comes from Váraljai’s Honey Farm on the southern Great Hungarian Plain, where forests, meadows and wildflower-rich countryside provide a diverse forage for the bees.

How to Use Bee Pollen

Bee pollen is easiest to enjoy as a finishing ingredient, adding gentle floral sweetness, colour and a light crunch.

  • Sprinkle over porridge, yoghurt, overnight oats or granola with fresh fruit.
  • Blend into smoothies, or scatter over the top just before serving for texture.
  • Add a pinch to a latte, cappuccino, iced coffee or hot chocolate.
  • Use as a topping for pancakes, waffles, chia pudding or vanilla ice cream.
  • Stir into homemade energy balls, muesli or a simple nut-and-fruit breakfast bowl.

Serving Tip

Use bee pollen cold or at room temperature to preserve its distinctive texture and delicate floral character. Scatter it over food just before serving rather than cooking it for long periods.

Where Does It Come From?

Our bee pollen comes from Váraljai’s Honey Farm, a family-run apiary near Ásotthalom on the southern Great Hungarian Plain. Beekeeper László Váraljai keeps his own hives and harvests honey and bee products using traditional, considered methods.

Monika visits the farm annually and remains in regular contact with László. She selected this pollen for its clean flavour and clear provenance from hive to pack.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does bee pollen taste like?

Bee pollen has a mild floral sweetness with gently earthy notes. The granules are naturally varied in colour and have a pleasantly chewy texture.

How should I eat bee pollen?

Sprinkle it over yoghurt, porridge, fruit, smoothies, pancakes or desserts. It is best added just before serving, rather than cooked for a long time.

Is bee pollen the same as honey?

No. Honey is made from nectar collected and transformed by bees, while bee pollen is made from pollen gathered from flowers. Both come from the hive, but they are different ingredients with distinct flavours and textures.

Is bee pollen the same as royal jelly?

No. Bee pollen is collected from flowers by foraging bees, while royal jelly is produced by worker bees. For a smooth flower-honey blend containing both royal jelly and bee pollen, try our royal jelly honey with propolis and pollen.

Is bee pollen suitable for everyone?

No. Do not use it if you are allergic to bee stings or other bee products.
