Organic Honey

What Is Organic Honey?

Organic honey is produced under certified organic standards that govern where bees forage, how hives are managed, and which treatments and inputs may be used.

These standards are designed to increase confidence in provenance and production methods, including restrictions on prohibited synthetic pesticides, herbicides, and genetically modified crops within the bees’ forage environment.

Organic Honey from Transylvania

We source our organic honey from the forests, meadows, and mountain landscapes of Transylvania, where extensive natural habitats provide rich seasonal forage for bees.

The honey comes from a family apiary and local network of beekeepers working within 50 km of each other, giving the range clear geographical provenance and a close connection to the landscape in which it is produced.

The result is a distinctive range of raw organic honeys that reflect the floral character of their individual sources, from delicate acacia to deeper mountain and forest honeys.

Personally Selected by Monika

Founder Monika Gyenes selected this Transylvanian apiary to extend Best of Hungary’s honey range with a certified organic option alongside our traditional Hungarian honeys.

She was particularly drawn to the producer’s family-run approach, the remote natural setting of the apiaries and the opportunity to offer customers organic honeys with clear regional provenance.

Certified Organic by the Soil Association

Best of Hungary is independently certified by Soil Association Certification for the handling, storage, importing and trade of organic products under licence DC30208.

Our current Soil Association trading schedule includes the organic honeys in this range, providing an additional layer of independent assurance that products we market as organic are covered by recognised certification and traceability standards.

Raw, Unpasteurised Organic Honey

Our organic honeys are raw, coarsely filtered and unpasteurised, preserving their natural texture, aroma and distinctive floral character.

Nothing is added to the honey, allowing each variety to retain the flavour associated with its forage source and harvest.

Organic Acacia Honey

Organic Acacia Honey is light, golden and delicately floral, with a smooth sweetness and naturally fluid texture.

Its gentle flavour makes it especially versatile for breakfast, drinks, baking, salad dressings and cheese boards.

Our single origin honey collection also includes this organic acacia honey alongside other clearly sourced monofloral honeys, bringing together varieties selected for both geographical provenance and distinctive floral character.

Organic Mountain Honey

Organic Mountain Honey reflects the varied wildflowers and forest plants of the Transylvanian mountain landscape, giving it a fuller, more complex character than lighter acacia honey.

Organic Pine Honey

Organic Pine Honey has a darker colour and more robust, resinous character, making it a good choice for customers who prefer a less delicate and more distinctive honey.

Organic Raspberry Honey

Organic Raspberry Honey is produced from nectar gathered around raspberry blossom and offers a fragrant, gently fruity floral profile.

How to Use Organic Honey

  • Drizzle over porridge, yoghurt, granola or fresh fruit.
  • Spread on toast, brioche or pancakes.
  • Stir into tea, coffee or other hot drinks.
  • Use in baking, marinades, glazes and salad dressings.
  • Pair lighter honeys with soft cheeses and stronger mountain or pine honeys with more mature cheeses.

Organic Honey vs Other Raw Honey

Organic certification does not mean that non-organic raw honey is inferior; it simply provides an additional independently audited standard covering the production and handling of the organic product.
