Aszú Törköly Pálinka 0.5l - Pomace Brandy
Aszú törköly pálinka is an oak-aged Tokaj pomace brandy, distilled from aszú grape pomace for raisin, walnut and spice notes with a long, warm finish.
What Is Aszú Törköly Pálinka?
Aszú törköly pálinka is a premium Hungarian grape pomace brandy, known in Hungarian as törköly pálinka and in French as marc. Törköly means the flavourful pomace left after grapes are pressed: the skins, pulp and seeds that retain the distinctive character of the fruit.
This exceptional pálinka comes from the volcanic Tokaj region and is matured for at least 12 months in Hungarian oak barrels previously used for making Tokaji wines. The patient maturation gives the spirit its golden-brown hue, a rounded texture and a more integrated oak-spice finish.
It shares the character of Tokaj's celebrated aszú grapes, but it is not Tokaji Aszú wine. This is a full-strength, oak-aged spirit: velvety and full-flavoured, with raisin, toasted walnut and warm caramel-like aromas rather than the sweetness of a dessert wine or liqueur.
How to Drink Aszú Törköly Pálinka
This is a contemplative fruit brandy for sipping neat. Its layered grape, oak and walnut character is especially rewarding after dinner, when there is time to let the aromas develop in the glass.
- Serve neat at 16-18°C in a tulip-shaped glass to bring out the raisin, walnut and spice notes.
- Enjoy after a special meal with espresso, dark chocolate or a small slice of walnut cake.
- Pair with dried apricots, raisins, toasted walnuts or a mature hard cheese for an elegant tasting plate.
- For those who enjoy it, serve alongside a fine cigar as a rich, slow-paced digestif.
- Offer it as a distinctive alternative to aged Grappa, Marc, Cognac or Calvados for a host's gift or after-dinner drinks cabinet.
Serving Tip
Pour a modest 20-30ml measure and allow it to rest for a minute before tasting. Take small sips rather than treating it as a shot, allowing the spirit to spread across the palate before swallowing. This gives the toasted walnut, dried-fruit and oak notes time to emerge.
Where Does It Come From?
Agárdi Distillery is located near Lake Velence in Hungary, where its team creates carefully made spirits with a focus on ripe raw materials, patient maturation and expressive flavour.
This 100% fruit pálinka is made in limited quantities and released in individually numbered bottles. Its aszú grape pomace and Tokaj oak maturation give it a clear sense of place: a deeply Hungarian spirit shaped by one of the world's most distinctive wine regions.
Most pálinka is distilled from whole fruit such as plum, apricot or cherry. This expression is made from aszú grape pomace instead, giving it a more grapey, nutty and barrel-spice-led character.
