What is Muscat Blanc?

Muscat Blanc, also known as Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains, is one of the world’s oldest and most aromatic white grape varieties, prized for its intense floral fragrance and delicate fruit-forward character.

In Hungary’s historic Tokaj wine region, the grape is known as Sárgamuskotály, and it takes on a truly distinctive expression, shaped by the unique combination of volcanic soils, centuries of winemaking tradition, and the special microclimate.

The resulting wines are celebrated for their elegant balance of fruity and honeyed notes, underpinned by a lively acidity that makes them both refreshing and versatile, perfect for crafting off-dry and late harvest wines.

Food Pairing

It would be an excellent pairing for Asian dishes. Prawn and Nam Jim dipping sauce would work very well with its spicy notes, while lighter Indian dishes would pair with the floral aspects of the wine. You can also serve it with smoked salmon or fresh cheese.

Gróf Degenfeld Winery, Tokaj

In 1994, the Count Degenfeld family successfully revived its wine estate in the heart of the Tokaj wine region, ensuring that an over 150-year-old tradition lives on with the latest generation. Winemaking is closely intertwined with the family’s deep love and respect for nature; therefore, they have cultivated their vineyards organically since 2009. The family only work with native grapes best suited to the unique micro-climate, creating a range of single varietal wines with award-winning credentials. The bunches are hand-harvested and carefully vinified with minimal intervention. As a result, you are tasting an authentic drop of the volcanic Tokaj terroir with every sip you take.
