Siberian Sturgeon Caviar 50g

£49.50

Siberian sturgeon caviar from sustainably farmed fish eggs, this premium Malossol roe is silky smooth with an intensely creamy, irresistibly nutty taste.

What is Sturgeon Caviar?

Our classic black caviar comes from the Siberian sturgeon fish species (Acipenser baerii). It has medium-sized grains (2.8-3.0 mm) and a shiny roe surface. It is prepared in a Malossol fashion, using just the right amount of sea salt to ensure the delicate fish eggs maintain their flawless grain structure. Its outstanding flavour is loved by chefs and connoisseurs alike, and this premium-quality caviar is one of the only Great Taste Award-winning product available on the market.

Sturgeon caviar is the best choice for those seeking the ultimate gourmet experience with a clean conscience. Its elegant flavour provides a more refined experience than the lower priced alternative from salmon. And while beluga is widely recognised for its large grain size, the fish is critically endangered and at a real risk of extinction. Our caviar comes from sustainably farmed sturgeon, striking the perfect balance between fine dining and the environment.

How should I serve it?

Caviar is traditionally served on blinis, accompanied by a layer of crème fraîche. Alternatively, place it on top of smoked salmon slices with a couple of capers, while cooked quail eggs and scallops are also popular choices. We recommend serving it with a mother of pearl spoon to prevent metal cutlery from interfering with its pure taste. For an authentic drink pairing, enjoy with a shot of vodka or a glass of Champagne.

Award Winner

It received 1* at the 2019 Great Taste Award.

Comments from the Great Taste judges: "Shiny, beautifully sized roe with a perfect sheen. Extremely even-sized eggs perfectly glistening, well-judged salt. Immediate briny tang on the tongue and a perfect greasy texture. We applaud the eco-friendly approach. Subtle but with a lasting finish."

How is it made?

Danubius Caviar was launched by a Hungarian fishing cooperative that began repopulating sturgeon and sterlet in the Danube River back in the 1990s, where both species are indigenous. Their expansion into caviar production is centred around over 65 years of tradition and know-how. They utilise the latest, environmentally-friendly technologies to ethically produce the highest-quality possible. The fish are kept in large outdoor pools filled with fresh spring water, which is heated and cooled using green energy. Due to our close connection, we receive an annual allocation of their finest caviar, ensuring that you taste nothing but the best of Hungary.

Shipment & Storage

We take the utmost care to ensure that you receive your caviar in perfect condition. We will contact you after you place your order to agree on a delivery date. We will then freshly pack it between ice sheets and ship it overnight in a chilled box.

As caviar is a very delicate product, its quality can be affected by improper handling and storage. We recommend keeping it in the coldest part of your refrigerator, at a temperature approaching but not below 0o Celsius. Unopened, it will last for up to 3 weeks refrigerated. Once opened, for the best experience, consume within 48 hours. Ensure that you place the lid back on between servings to prevent excess exposure to air.
