Medovik Honey Cake 800g
Medovik-style honey cake combines soft honey pastry, caramel-milk cream, walnuts and cocoa decoration in a generous cake, ready to slice and share.
What Is Medovik Honey Cake?
Medovik is a layered honey cake loved for its fine pastry sheets, creamy filling and rich honey flavour. The layers soften against the cream, creating a tender cake with a distinctive striped appearance in every slice.
This version is Marlenka’s classic honey cake, made in the Czech Republic using an Armenian family recipe. It combines honey-infused pastry with a smooth caramel-milk filling, finished with honey crumbs, walnuts and delicate cocoa decoration.
Often associated with Russian honey cake, Medovik is also enjoyed in Ukrainian and other Eastern European baking traditions. Romanian speakers may recognise it as tort Medovik, while in Czech, layered honey cake is commonly called medovník, often written medovnik without the accent. Recipes vary between families and bakeries, particularly in the cream filling.
Marlenka’s cake has a rounded, comforting flavour: fragrant honey, mellow caramel and a gentle walnut finish, with a light chocolate note from the cocoa decoration. Ready to serve straight from its packaging, it makes an easy dessert for family meals, birthdays, afternoon tea and celebrations.
How to Serve Medovik Honey Cake
The 800g cake provides approximately eight generous dessert portions or up to sixteen smaller slices for coffee, afternoon tea or a sharing table.
- Serve a slice with espresso, cappuccino or black tea for a comforting afternoon treat.
- Add fresh raspberries or strawberries and a little whipped cream for an easy plated dessert.
- Offer small slices after dinner with coffee, allowing the honey and caramel flavours to take centre stage.
- Bring it to a birthday, family gathering or office celebration as a ready-to-share honey cake.
- Include it in a food gift or dessert selection for someone who enjoys Central and Eastern European cakes.
Serving Tip
Allow the cake to come to room temperature before serving so the honey pastry and caramel cream are at their softest. Cut with a sharp knife, wiping the blade between slices to keep the layers neatly defined.
Where Does It Come From?
Marlenka began in 2003, when Gevorg Avetisjan and his sister started baking honey cakes from an old Armenian family recipe after moving to the Czech Republic. They named the brand after his daughter.
Today, Marlenka cakes are made in Frýdek-Místek, Czech Republic. The classic cake retains its distinctive square shape, layered honey pastry, caramel cream and walnut-and-cocoa finish.
