A Welsh Christmas Greeting, Made in Hungary

“Nadolig Llawen” is Welsh for “Merry Christmas”: a warm and familiar festive greeting used across Wales.

This design was created with Szabó Üveg as a Welsh-language decoration for Best of Hungary’s home in Wales, bringing together a cherished local greeting and traditional Hungarian glassmaking.

The reverse side is decorated in red and green, the Welsh national colours, so the bauble remains festive and distinctive from every angle.

Where Does It Come From?

This bauble is made by Szabó Üveg, a family-run glass workshop in Tárnok, near Budapest. The Szabó family founded the business in 1963 and began making glass Christmas decorations around 1970. More than half a century later, the workshop continues to combine traditional equipment, skilled handwork and designs shaped by festive tradition.

Each ornament is hand-blown from glass, silvered internally to create its reflective glow, then hand-coloured and decorated. Small variations in the lettering, brushwork, paint layers and finish are a natural part of the hand-finished process, giving every bauble its own character.
