A Hungarian Christmas Greeting

“Áldott Karácsonyt” is a warm, traditional Hungarian Christmas greeting. Literally meaning “Blessed Christmas”, it is used in much the same way as “Merry Christmas” in English, but has a particularly personal and heartfelt character.

Where Does It Come From?

This bauble is made by Szabó Üveg, a family-run glass workshop in Tárnok, near Budapest. The Szabó family founded the business in 1963 and began making glass Christmas decorations around 1970. More than half a century later, the workshop continues to combine traditional equipment, skilled handwork and designs shaped by festive tradition.

Each ornament is hand-blown from glass, silvered internally to create its reflective glow, then coloured and decorated by hand. Small variations in brushwork, lettering, paint layers and finish are a natural part of the hand-finished process, giving every bauble its own character.
