Cascara coffee cherry tea is a naturally caffeine-light infusion. Its fruity sweetness makes it a healthy and refreshing alternative to tea and coffee.

What is Cascara?

Cascara, meaning “husk” in Spanish, is crafted from the dried outer skins of coffee cherries, the fruit that surrounds the coffee bean.

Instead of discarding these nutrient-rich husks, our partner farmers carefully clean and gently dry them using only the power of the sun to create a naturally sweet herbal infusion with a rich fruity flavour and hints of hibiscus, rosehip, and red berries.

Although it comes from coffee cherries, its taste is nothing like coffee, making this an excellent low-caffeine alternative to those who don’t enjoy the strong, bitter taste of a regular brew.

Health Benefits of Coffee Cherry Tea

  • It is naturally rich in antioxidants, which help combat oxidative stress and support overall wellness. Regular consumption of this delicious superfood may enhance the immune system and cognitive function.
  • Lower in caffeine than regular coffee or black tea, this brew provides a gentle pick-me-up and steady energy without the crashes, making it perfect for an afternoon drink.
  • The coffee cherries are an excellent source of vitamins and minerals, including potassium and magnesium, as well as powerful plant polyphenols.
  • It has been traditionally valued for aiding digestion, promoting gut health and reducing the symptoms of constipation.

How to Brew Cascara Tea

  1. Add 5g of cascara per cup.
  2. Steep in 100ml of hot water (90–95°C) for 8-10 minutes.
  3. Strain and serve.

You can drink it hot or chill and enjoy it as a refreshing iced tea.

Add a sprinkle of lemon juice for a citrussy twist, or a spoonful of raw honey for a touch of healthy goodness.

Pro Tip: Cold-brew cascara overnight in the fridge for a naturally sweet and invigorating energy drink low in calories and containing no added sugar.

Sustainable & Ethical Choice

The cascara comes from Finca Banyai, a micro plantation based in the heart of Costa Rica’s coffee-growing region at a height of 1530 meters above sea level, providing the optimal growing conditions for cultivating the finest fruit.

The farm is run by a dedicated team of Hungarian scientists and conservation experts, supported by locals with decades of experience, to ensure the long-term sustainability of coffee by adapting to climate change and the challenges of tomorrow.

By choosing cascara tea, you’re aiding their efforts, as it transforms a by-product into a valuable drink. This eco-friendly process reduces agricultural waste and helps create a more sustainable coffee culture.
