What Is Borsodi Beer?

Borsodi Beer, known in Hungary as Borsodi Világos, is a classic pale lager with a bright golden colour and a soft, finely textured white head. It has a clean, easy-drinking character, balancing gentle maltiness with fresh hop notes and satisfying bitterness.

The current recipe is brewed purely from barley malt, without corn. This gives Borsodi its straightforward, refreshing lager profile: crisp enough for a hot day, but with enough malt character to stand up to a proper meal.

It is a traditional Hungarian light lager: refreshing rather than heavy, with a gentle malt flavour, soft hop aroma and clean finish. It is also suitable for vegans and vegetarians.

How to Enjoy Borsodi Beer

Borsodi is best served well chilled, ideally poured into a clear glass to appreciate its golden colour and generous foam. Its uncomplicated, pleasantly bitter finish makes it a particularly good choice for relaxed lunches, barbecues and casual evenings with friends.

Where Does It Come From?

Borsodi has been brewed in Bőcs, in north-eastern Hungary, since 1973. The brewery was established as Hungary’s appetite for beer grew, and Borsodi Világos was one of the first beers produced there.

Over the decades, it has become one of Hungary’s best-known everyday lagers. Its green-and-red design, horse crest and “Az élet habos oldala” (“the foamy side of life”) slogan are instantly recognisable to generations of Hungarian beer drinkers.
