Marlenka Cocoa Cake is a traditional Armenian-style layered honey cake with cocoa pastry, smooth cream filling and a rich cocoa crumb finish for sharing.

What Is Marlenka Cocoa Cake?

Marlenka Cocoa Cake is the richer, cocoa-led expression of the brand’s distinctive layered honey cake. Fine layers of cocoa pastry and smooth cream filling are finished with a generous cocoa crumb topping, creating a deep, chocolatey flavour with Marlenka’s characteristic tender texture.

Honey remains an important part of the recipe, softening the cocoa and giving the cake its gentle warmth and rounded sweetness. It is an especially good choice for chocolate lovers who would like something more interesting than a conventional chocolate sponge cake.

The cake is made without added preservatives or colours, using a traditional Armenian family recipe that has become a much-loved Central European speciality.

How to Serve Marlenka Cocoa Cake

Serve Marlenka Cocoa Cake in generous slices after dinner, or cut it into smaller pieces for coffee, afternoon tea and relaxed entertaining. Its cocoa-rich layers are particularly good with espresso, cappuccino, black tea or a cold glass of milk.

Fresh raspberries, strawberries or cherries bring a welcome bright contrast to the smooth cream filling and deep cocoa crumb. It also makes an easy centrepiece for birthdays and gatherings when you would like a ready-to-serve cake with plenty of sharing appeal.

The 800g cake serves around 8 generous dessert portions or up to 16 smaller slices for coffee, afternoon tea or a larger gathering.

A Simple Serving Idea

Allow the cake to come to room temperature before slicing, then serve each portion with fresh raspberries and a little lightly whipped cream. A cup of strong coffee alongside brings out the deeper cocoa notes beautifully.

For the classic Marlenka experience, try the Marlenka Honey Cake, with walnut crumbs and delicate cocoa decoration. For a bite-sized alternative to serve with coffee or add to a sharing table, choose Marlenka Honey Nuggets.

Where Does Marlenka Come From?

Marlenka began in 2003, when Gevorg Avetisjan and his sister started baking honey cakes from an old Armenian family recipe after moving to the Czech Republic. He named the new cake Marlenka after his daughter.

Today, they make the cakes in Frýdek-Místek, Czech Republic. Their combination of fine honey-pastry layers, creamy fillings and generous flavour has made them a familiar speciality across Central Europe, including Hungary.
