Pozsonyi Kifli 290g - Poppy Seed & Walnut Crescent

Pozsonyi kifli are traditional crescent-shaped Hungarian cookies filled with ground poppy seeds or walnuts. This classic sweet pastry is a delightful treat.

Each pack contains two Diós Kifli (walnut-filled) and two Mákos Kifli (poppy seed-filled), both stuffed with a delicious mixture of raisins, dried fruits, and a hint of plum jam.

A Brief History

Pozsonyi kifli, known as Bratislavský Rožok in Slovak and Pressburger Kipfel in German (with Pozsony and Pressburg being historical names for Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia), has a fascinating origin story.

After the Ottoman defeat at the Siege of Vienna, an innovative baker created these crescent-shaped cookies inspired by the half-moon flag of their opponents. The recipe eventually made its way to Bratislava, where it developed its own identity.

These sweet pastries can be considered the little cousins of mákos and diós beigli, which are long pastry rolls filled with poppy seeds and walnuts. Regardless of their origin story, Pozsonyi Kifli boast a higher filling-to-pastry ratio than the beloved beigli, making them an excellent treat.
