What is Raw Honey?

It is honey that is collected by bees and then harvested and bottled fresh. Raw honey is unprocessed; it is not pasteurised or heat-treated and remains in its original state, retaining all its healthy, natural goodness.

Raw honey differs from pure honey, which relates to whether the honey has had anything added to it, such as sugar syrup, to make it cheaper. An investigation conducted by the UK branch of the Honey Authenticity Network in 2024 found that 24 out of 25 honey samples available in large retailers, including supermarkets, exhibited suspicious signs of not being genuine pure honey.

Honey is often consumed for its nutritional benefits; however, most inexpensive supermarket 'honey' has been heavily processed and usually bulked out with sugar syrup. Honey fraud is one of the biggest, yet least recognised issues in the food industry, with fake honey widely available on shop shelves.
