Ingredients
-
500g all-purpose flour
-
200ml milk
-
200ml water
-
30g yeast
-
vegetable oil
-
1 tsp sugar
-
1 tsp salt
-
sour cream
-
grated cheese
Directions
Begin by warming the milk in the microwave for a brief 10-15 seconds, just enough to make it lukewarm. In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, yeast, and half of the milk. Stir these ingredients together, then cover the bowl and allow the mixture to rise.
Next, in a large bowl, mix the flour and salt thoroughly. Create a well in the center and add the oil, yeast mixture, the remaining milk, and a small amount of lukewarm water. Begin to mix by hand, gradually adding the rest of the water. As the dough becomes moderately soft, cover the bowl and let it rise for approximately 1 hour.
Oil a baking tray. Divide the dough into small balls (around 12 equal portions) and place them some distance apart on the tray. Cover with a kitchen towel and allow it to continue rising for about 30 minutes.
Pour oil into a frying pan around 10cm deep, then heat to high. Using your pre-oiled hands, carefully lay in the well-stretched out and flat-shaped dough. Fry on both sides for 1-2 minutes until nicely golden brown. Remove from the pan, let the oil drip off the lángos, then place on a plate covered with paper towels to prevent the dough from absorbing the remaining oil.
Sprinkle with salt, then top with a layer of sour cream and a generous portion of grated cheese.
