What Is Soproni IPA?

Soproni IPA is an unfiltered, top-fermented India Pale Ale made with 100% Hungarian barley. It offers a more aromatic, fruit-led alternative to a traditional pale lager, while remaining smooth, approachable and easy to enjoy.

Citra and Cascade hops give the beer its floral, citrusy and gently fruity character, while the unfiltered finish adds extra body and depth. It has the recognisable hop bitterness of an IPA, balanced by a rounded malt base rather than an overly aggressive edge.

At 4.8% ABV, it is slightly stronger than a classic pale lager while remaining an easy-drinking choice for relaxed meals, gatherings and weekends with friends.

How to Enjoy Soproni IPA

Serve Soproni IPA well chilled, ideally in a generous beer glass that allows its floral and citrus hop aromas to open up. It is particularly good with food that can stand up to its gentle bitterness, including burgers, spicy chicken, grilled meats and salty snacks.

Where Does It Come From?

Soproni IPA is made by Soproni Brewery in the historic western Hungarian city of Sopron, where beer has been brewed under the Soproni name since 1895. The brewery is one of Hungary’s oldest and most recognisable beer names, combining a long lager-brewing heritage with more contemporary styles.

Óvatos Duhaj, often translated as “Cautious Carouser”, is Soproni’s range of more characterful beers. Alongside this hop-led IPA, it includes fruit-led expressions such as Soproni Sour Cherry Beer.
