The nose on this Egri cuvée boasts orchard fruit, citrus, honey and delectable mineral notes. The palate continues with pear, apple, peach and the addition of grapefruit. Medium bodied with fine acidity, culminating in a strong mineral finish.
Egri Csillag is a recent innovation from the Eger wine region in northern Hungary. The first samples were made in 2010, in an attempt to present the market with a white sister wine to the famed red blend, Egri Bikavér (Bull's Blood). Blended from an array of indigenous and international grape varieties, Egri Csillag gives winemakers a free hand to create their own idea of a youthful, refreshing and easy-drinking white.
Food Pairing
Beyond the obvious choices of fish and seafood, you may want to try pairing this wine with spicy Asian dishes or rich, creamy vegetable casseroles. Washed-rind cheese such as Appenzeller, Epoisses and Linburger will also be a great match.
