ST. ANDREA Egri Bikavér Superior “Áldás” 2018

What more could you ask for from a Bull's Blood. The nose is complex and deep. Red cherry, red berries and black fruits complement oak, chocolate and sweet smoked spice. A medium body with elegant minerality is indicative of the volcanic, cool climate Eger terroir. Sot, ripe tannins and a fine acidity set this wine up perfectly for food pairing and ageing, if you can wait.

ST. ANDREA Egri Csillag “Napbor” 2020

The nose on this Egri cuvée boasts orchard fruit, citrus, honey and delectable mineral notes. The palate continues with pear, apple, peach and the addition of grapefruit. Medium bodied with fine acidity, culminating in a strong mineral finish.

Egri Csillag is a recent innovation from the Eger wine region in northern Hungary. The first samples were made in 2010, in an attempt to present the market with a white sister wine to the famed red blend, Egri Bikavér (Bull's Blood). Blended from an array of indigenous and international grape varieties, Egri Csillag gives winemakers a free hand to create their own idea of a youthful, refreshing and easy-drinking white.

Beyond the obvious choices of fish and seafood, you may want to try pairing this wine with spicy Asian dishes or rich, creamy vegetable casseroles. Washed-rind cheese such as Appenzeller, Epoisses and Linburger will also be a great match.
