MAUL 'Lator' Premium Villányi Franc 2018

Cabernet Franc has found itself a second home in the Mediterranean climate of Villány, and now wines made from the grape are recognised as Villányi Franc, a separate variety in its own right.

Lator is the flagship red wine of winemaker Maul Zsolt, who believes that Villányi Franc is best suited to bringing alive the unique character of this exceptional terroir. Dark ruby hue, almost turning into black. An exciting and enticing forest aroma of red-berried wild fruit and musky mushroom notes. The palate perfectly follows on from the nose, with sour cherries, dark fruit and a masculine leather character. This is a powerful and vibrant vintage, juicy and provocative. Silky smooth and ripe tannins with a minty, leafy freshness round out a memorable drink.


Food Pairing

This rich red wine would go very well with steak, game dishes and stews. You can also pair it with ox cheek cooked in red wine and served with a side of couscous, or alongside semi-hard cheese like Baracskai.

Maul Winery, Villány - Protected Designation of Origin (PDO)

Zsolt Maul is one of the leading young winemakers in Villány. He helped out his parents and grandparents in the family vineyards from an early age, imbuing him with a love of nature and especially grapes. After a brief foray into the business world, he has returned to his roots and established his winery. He builds on his family experiences and uses artisanal winemaking methods to create wines which authentically reflect the terroir. His relentless approach to life is to never rest, never to be satisfied; he is always seeking adventure and innovation, to be better every day, with every vintage.
